Columbus home sales slip while prices climb

Home sales fell in the state's most expensive market of Columbus in October while climbing in more affordable parts of the state.

During the month, Central Ohio home sales fell 1.2% from a year ago while the median sales price climbed 5.7% to $205,000. For the first 10 months of the year, central Ohio home prices have risen almost 8% from the same period in 2018.

Statewide, however, sales rose 2.3% from a year ago, driven by bumps in most of the state's other large markets, according to Ohio Realtors. Statewide sales prices rose 4.7% in October.

Cincinnati-area sales rose 7.6% in October, Dayton sales were up 4.8% and Akron-Cleveland sales rose 4%. Among the state's largest cities, only Toledo saw a sales drop.

"In addition to our resilient sales activity, the marketplace is also exhibiting a steady rise in the average sales price — good news for current and would-be buyers that housing in Ohio continues to be a solid, long-term investment," Ohio Realtors President Anjanette Frye said in a news release.

Nationally, sales rose 1.9% in October to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.46 million.
