There are very few times you need to have your homeowner’s insurance policy handy, but right now I am living through one of those times. My house suffered some damage during the storm (not enough to make it inhabitable, but water did get in) and I needed to file a claim.

Fortunately I found a copy of the policy in a hanging file we have but it got me to thinking about something some loan officers provide as a service to their clients. The first time was at a Karen Deis “Million Dollar Brain” meeting; it is providing the new homeowner with a portfolio that has all of their important papers in it.

The need for this was driven home to me because my wife and I were asked to show either a monthly statement or payment book to our FEMA examiner and we had to search high and low in a dark apartment before we found something (an escrow statement as it happens) with our loan account number on it.

Make it easy for your clients to find their papers, they have another reason to remember you when it comes time for their next loan.
