Solomon, an OCC employee since 1995, succeeds Jeff Gillespie, who is retiring later this year. She will report to chief counsel Julie Williams.
"She's a great lawyer and strategic thinker, and an outstanding manager, and she has an in-depth knowledge of the laws governing national banks," Williams said.
The new OCC deputy chief counsel also is knowledgeable about the laws governing federally chartered thrifts. Before joining OCC Solomon was the deputy chief counsel at the Office of Thrift Supervision.
The Dodd-Frank regulatory reform bill calls for the merger of OTS into the OCC by the end of July 2011. OCC and OTS officials have already met to discuss the merger process.
