MortgageKeeper Referral Services reports hundreds of thousands of struggling homeowners continue to seek foreclosure prevention assistance online.
The MortgageKeeper Homeowner Needs Status Report shows 900,000 homeowners sought financial counseling assistance by yearend 2012, up 34% compared to 2011.
It represents the highest number of referrals ever requested in a single year, the web-based data application and counseling services provider said.
The top referral categories following utility, food and employment assistance were housing, credit counseling and rental housing.
An increasing number of struggling homeowners is connecting with qualified nonprofit and government agencies through the MortgageKeeper website.
The boost is obvious not only year-over-year but also day-by-day. Daily referrals increased from 2,300 at the start of 2012 to 3,100 at the end of the year.
According to Rochelle Nawrocki Gorey, president of MortgageKeeper Referral Services, these findings indicate that despite encouraging signs of improvement in the housing crisis and job market “millions of consumers are still struggling with less income, higher living expenses and persistent mortgage delinquency.”
