Irvine-Faith Schwartz has joined Option One Mortgage Corp., a subsidiary of H&R Block, as senior vice president of alternative markets.

In this newly created position, Ms. Schwartz will have responsibilities in the areas of new product development, secondary marketing, and industry and government relations. She is based in Washington, D.C.

Most recently, Ms. Schwartz was director of sales, national lending, for Freddie Mac. She joined Freddie in 1997 to help the organization enter the subprime segment of the mortgage market. She also managed its efforts to combat predatory lending.

Lake Forest-Provantedge Technologies announced the promotion of Larry Oberhaus to the position of vice president, sales and marketing.

Effective immediately, Mr. Oberhaus will have oversight of Provantedge Technologies' marketing as well as responsibilities for growing the sales organization.

Before joining Provantedge Technologies, Mr. Oberhaus worked at Interlinq where he helped approximately 150 companies automate with Mortgageware.

Prior to Interlinq, he was in automation sales and spent several years with Freddie Mac, marketing Loan Prospector to Freddie's larger accounts in their Western region.

Santa Monica-First Federal Bank of California announced the appointment of Dirk S. Adams as executive vice president, chief residential lending officer. Mr. Adams is responsible for the bank's single-family loan portfolio, overseeing loan origination, processing, underwriting, funding and secondary marketing units.

Prior to joining First Federal, Mr. Adams served as executive vice president at World Savings and Loan. Additionally, he held positions on the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco as general counsel from 1983 to 1987, and as a member of the board of directors of the FHLB from 1995 to 2000.


Washington-The Mortgage Bankers Association of America announced the promotion of Dan Thoms to vice president of education and business development, William Kooper to senior director of government affairs and Mark Brady to manager of the meetings division.

Mr. Thoms is responsible for the management, development and execution of all CampusMBA programs.

This includes real estate finance education, distance-learning courses, classroom courses, seminars, professional designations and publications.

Mr. Kooper coordinates the day-to-day administrative operations of the government affairs department, including management of the support structure for issue campaigns and the committee policy process.

Mr. Brady plans and manages all aspects of sponsorship programs for MBA's entire conference schedule. He also organizes and implements sales strategies and marketing communications for all MBA sponsorship/exhibit programs.


Minneapolis-Old Republic Title announced two appointments in its leadership team. Effective immediately, Stephen Wilson, Boston-based president of the Eastern Title Group, will take on additional responsibilities as president of the Central Title Group for the U.S., and Patrick Connor, vice president, based in the Columbus, Ohio area, will assume the role of senior vice president of the company's national services group.

For the past three years, Mr. Wilson was president of Eastern Title operations. He joined Old Republic Title more than 15 years ago and played a vital role in the development of the Northeast territory while serving as senior vice president and northeast regional manager.

Mr. Connor will oversee the company's national services group.


Bala Cynwyd-Upland Mortgage announced the appointment of Gary Seybold to the position of senior vice president.

With a strong background in commercial banking and the mortgage industry,

Mr. Seybold was previously with GMAC Mortgage, where he worked as the managing director of business development and client relations within their national loan administration group focusing on developing relationships in the private label sub servicing marketplace.

Prior to joining GMAC Mortgage, he spent 12 years with CoreStates Financial Corp.

Horsham-GMAC Mortgage Corp. has named Tyron W. Miller vice president of business development for special servicing. Mr. Miller, who has run GMAC Mortgage's default operations since 1999, will assume responsibility for developing special servicing relationships for the nation's ninth largest subservicer.

Currently headquartered at the company's sprawling servicing facility in Waterloo, Iowa, he will split his time between Waterloo and the company's special servicing center in Shelton, Conn.


Salt Lake City-Anthony Beirne has joined Fairbanks Capital Corp. as executive vice president and chief financial officer.

Mr. Beirne is responsible for all financial functions, including financial planning and control, treasury and portfolio analytics.

Prior to joining Fairbanks Capital, he was chief financial officer of a start-up company in the air transport industry. Previously, he held senior financial roles in a 13-year tenure at Heller Financial Inc.


Seattle-Washington Mutual announced that it has hired Eduardo Sayan as vice president of emerging markets.

He will be responsible for directing advertising and marketing efforts with emerging markets for the banking and financial services group.

With more than 12 years of experience in advertising and marketing, Mr. Sayan comes to Washington Mutual from California Federal Bank.
