New Insurance Up, Delinquencies Down in September: Radian

Mortgage insurer Radian Guaranty Inc. reported a nearly 5.6% month-over-month increase in the volume of new primary mortgage insurance written in September while claims on delinquent loans declined.

The report, based on monthly data reported to Radian by loan servicers, shows that primary new insurance written in September totaled $3.79 billion, up from $3.59 billion in August.

At the same time its inventory of delinquent loans continues to decline. At the beginning of the month 47,364 primary loans were delinquent compared to 47,870 at the beginning of August. Also, roughly 4,000 loans were newly delinquent, down from 4,360 the previous month.

By the end of September the delinquent loan inventory had dropped to slightly over 46,840 as nearly 3,560 loans were cured, 850 were paid and another 125 were rescissions and denials.

Comparatively, in August nearly 3,500 loans were cured, while roughly 1,180 were paid and over 190 were denials.
