Essex Property Trust Discloses Cyber Hack

Essex Property Trust said on Monday that its computer networks have been hacked.

The company said it in a regulatory filing that networks "containing personal and proprietary information have been compromised by a cyber-intrusion."

No additional information about timing of the intrusion or the scope was provided.

An investigation into the hack is ongoing, Essex said, noting that it has taken steps to secure its internal systems. The company has hired forensic experts to investigate its data systems, and is consulting with law enforcement.

Essex is a real estate investment trust based in Palo Alto, Calif.
