Nationwide Title Clearing, Inc. (NTC) Executives Attend PRIA and NACRC Conferences—eRecording Manager Speaks on Panel

(Palm Harbor, Fla.) March 18, 2013Nationwide Title Clearing, Inc. (NTC) recently attended two back-to-back conferences—the Property Records Industry Association (PRIA) Winter Symposium, and the National Association of County Recorders, Election Officials and Clerks (NACRC) Legislative conference.  The PRIA conference was held in Washington, D.C. from February 26th-March 1st, and the NACRC conference followed on March 2nd-3rd.  NTC, a leading post-closing services provider for the residential mortgage industry, was among top mortgage industry leaders and county recording officials that attended the conferences.

PRIA is an organization which develops and promotes national standards and practices within the land records industry.  The PRIA Winter Symposium consisted of 23 sessions on the topic of eRecords and was well-attended with 148 members, guests and speakers.  Brian Ernissee, NTC’s Electronic Recording Manager, spoke on a panel at the conference called “eRecord from a Submitter’s Perspective.”  Ernissee spoke about the relative newness of eRecording and how to improve upon the practice and make it widespread, drawing upon NTC’s 20 years of experience with property documents.

NTC is one of many mortgage industry companies implementing eRecording.  More than 840 jurisdictions are currently eRecording-enabled, and approximately 15 new jurisdictions become enabled every month (1).  Electronic recording, or eRecording, is the process of filing and recording documents via the Internet rather than on paper.  The process differs from traditional recording methods because the original documents never leave one’s possession.  Documents are scanned and submitted within minutes, and are then returned electronically immediately after recording.

The volume of documents sent by NTC to record electronically has gone from 10% in May 2012 to well above 40% in February 2013. With such positive growth, NTC expects their total volume submitted electronically for recording to be steadily above 50% by May.

eRecording consists of the following five-step process:  submit, receive, review, record and return.  eRecording makes processing land record and property documents simple, fast and secure.  The process allows documents to be submitted 24/7, and is cost-effective, reducing paperwork.

While the PRIA symposium focused on various aspects of eRecording, the NACRC conference provided sessions on issues such as land records and management, election changes, and discussions on various mortgage-related topics.  Myron Finley, NTC’s Chief Legal Officer, and Ernissee attended the NACRC conference for the second consecutive year.

The goal of the conference was to provide a venue for local officials to talk about how to meet local needs with national knowledge.  NACRC members convened for discussions on the latest issues affecting election and court administration, clerk to board, digital data preservation, and the characteristics of leadership.  Many well-regarded speakers were featured, including Jane Mandlebaum, IT Project Manager at the Library of Congress, as well as representatives from Rock the Vote and USPS.

As a result of the conferences, NTC was able to inform those attending about new aspects of the mortgage industry, particularly eRecording.

“The PRIA and NACRC conferences are where proactive and professional leaders go to educate themselves and collaborate on issues that impact our nation’s land records,” Ernissee said.
