A Lexington, Ky., man was sentenced Monday to five months in prison for conspiracy to commit wire fraud and making false statements to a federal agency after he was paid for home appraisals he didn't do.
U.S. District Judge Joseph M. Hood also sentenced Matt Garner, 34, to five months of home confinement and ordered him to pay a $5,500 fine.
Garner owned and operated Garner & Associates, and from 2012 to 2016, his company was paid for more than 700 residential appraisals that he didn't conduct. When he pleaded guilty in May, he said he paid unlicensed people a small portion of the appraisal fee to perform the appraisals.
He must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence and will on probation for three years after completing his prison sentence.
