Niagara County had profitable foreclosure auction

The winning bids at Saturday's annual Niagara County, N.Y., tax foreclosure auction totaled more than $1 million.

County Treasurer Kyle R. Andrews said the county made a profit, because the unpaid taxes written off on the 58 properties sold totaled slightly under $500,000. More than 30 parcels were withdrawn from the auction because of legal objections from tax-delinquent owners.

The property that brought the highest bid was a 1,400-square-foot home on Washington Street in Bergholz, sold for $62,000 to Alexander Arutunian, representing Molar Development LLC of Getzville. He said he intends to repair the house and resell it.

Brian Yaiser of Royalton won the top commercial property available, the long-defunct Middleport Cold Storage plant, for $60,000. He also paid the same price for a house on Ernest Road in Royalton.
