Florida bankruptcy court approves HLP's communication portal

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida has approved a portal created by HLP to enhance communications during the mediation process.

The attorneys for the mortgage servicer and debtor are able to use the portal during the mediation process to communicate and exchange data and documents, along with tracking the status of any case in real time. The portal also builds a permanent audit trail and each party is able to input and update information regarding their case.

"We are extremely pleased to offer our bankruptcy mediation portal in the Southern District of Florida, which will help all parties by making the process extremely efficient," said HLP CEO Mark Cole in a press release. "We will work closely with the courts to implement the portal as soon as possible. In addition, we will work closely with mortgage servicers to encourage their attorneys to select HLP for their mediation cases."

Consumers and their representatives will not be charged for using the portal, HLP said.

There are three courthouses in the Florida Southern District, located in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, with 3,793 bankruptcy cases filed during the three months ending in September.

The bankruptcy mediation portal is powered by IndiSoft's RxOffice technology. The court approved the portal following two demonstrations and numerous program modifications.

The Southern District was the first bankruptcy court in the nation to approve the portal's use. HLP is working with the two other bankruptcy districts in Florida and with bankruptcy courts in other states to obtain approvals for the portal's use in those jurisdictions.
