UK Lenders Rap Homeowner Taxes

The U.K.'s Council of Mortgage Lenders is concerned about the "sharp" increase in taxes paid by homeowners in recent years and is calling for the government to limit taxation of homebuyers."The time has come to cap the financial burden on home-owners by ensuring that tax allowances and thresholds are automatically indexed," CML deputy general Peter Williams said in an Oct. 30 statement. "More generally, the Government needs to adopt a more coherent approach to owner-occupation and address some of the tensions and contradictions in current policy." The CML can be found online at http://www.cml.org.uk.
