U.S. Bank adding up to 200 mortgage jobs in St. Louis

Growth in U.S. Bank's mortgage business is prompting a hiring spree in St. Louis, with plans for up to 200 new local jobs.

The Minneapolis-based bank already added more than 150 jobs at its mortgage offices in Earth City and downtown St. Louis over the past year, said Tom Wind, president of U.S. Bank Home Mortgage.

The mortgage division is based in the bank's headquarters city, but Wind is based in St. Louis. The bank's residential mortgages increased 6.1 percent from January through midyear, compared with the same time period in 2016.

"We will be adding another 150 to 200 in the next year or two," Wind said about the mortgage division's local plans. The jobs will be added at U.S. Bank's existing office space in Earth City and downtown. Currently, the bank's mortgage unit has 551 employees at two buildings in Earth City and 183 employees downtown.

The St. Louis region is among U.S. Bank Home Mortgage's largest employee hubs, in addition to Minneapolis and Owensboro, Ky.

The division's operations group that supports the retail mortgage business and project managers are among the jobs to be added in St. Louis. New digital offerings for loan applicants, including its U.S. Bank Loan Portal that debuted in June, are driving the jobs growth, Wind said. The bank's new loan portal allows mortgage loan applicants to upload pay stubs and other images on smartphones, among other features.

U.S. Bank is the largest retail bank in St. Louis, based on market share of deposits. The bank's U.S. Bancorp Community Development Corp. subsidiary, a tax credit investor and community development lender, is based in downtown St. Louis. Companywide, U.S. Bank has 4,200 employees in the St. Louis region.
