The Mortgage Bankers Association has formed a select committee to find a replacement to departing president David Stevens with 15 candidates being thrown into the pool, according to officials familiar with the process.
“There’s 15 names on the list,” said one MBA member “but you have to keep in mind that some of those doing the selecting nominated themselves. Right now there’s no front runner.”
Stevens’ last day on the job is June 30. He is leaving to become president of SunTrust Mortgage.
Names that have surfaced for the job include former MBA chairman David Kittle who held the annual post, and Kurt Pfotenhauer, who once served as senior vice president of government affairs for the trade group before leaving last year to take a job with First American Title Insurance Company.
One Washington analyst close to the trade group, who requested his name not be published, cautioned that, “There are no real candidates yet.”
