Beneficiaries include 25 to 30 organizations. Bank officials said they are offering training scholarships for homeowner counselors who need to get certification.

The grant will help various nonprofits, such as NeighborWorks America, to train and support their member organizations.

In addition, grant funds will be used for research.

For example, NeighborWorks is conducting a study about best practices in online counseling and compare benefits “to potential homeowners who are looking for mortgages and shopping for property online, but not necessarily seeking counseling.”

Another beneficiary, Housing Partnership Network, is launching foreclosure prevention training programs.

The National Rural Housing Coalition is preparing a social media campaign “to raise awareness of key issues and barriers to affordable housing in rural communities,” the bank said.
