The Center for Responsible Lending was one of 15 organizations on Thursday to receive a MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions.
The $2 million award was given to the Durham, N.C.,-based non-profit for its effort to eliminate abusive financial practices including predatory lending.
Martin Eakes, who founded the Center for Responsible Lending in 2000, has received several grants from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, including a $500,000 MacArthur Fellowship in 1996.
