Hawaii Homeowners Obtaining the Highest Loans

The highest average residential home loan amount is given to homeowners who live in Hawaii, according to data from LendingTree.

Aloha State residents are receiving an average of $677,299 in home loans from lenders.

Based on this loan amount and a 4% annual percentage rate, Hawaii homeowners would have a monthly payment for a 30-year mortgage of $3,234.

The Charlotte, N.C.-based online lender's data reveals that Washington D.C. residents obtain the second most money for their properties at $393,453, followed by New Jersey at $344,240 and New York at $340,124.

California, the state with the largest population, which has over 37 million people, according to the 2010 Census, was the ninth highest average home loan amount at $310,676.

The states with the lowest average home loan amounts are Mississippi at $137,182 and Nebraska at $137,515.

Nationally, the average home loan amount was $222,261 and the average monthly payment for a 30-year mortgage at 4% would be $1,061.
