Sales of existing single-family homes rose 1% in Florida in August, according to Florida's Realtors association.
A total of 13,997 homes sold in the state in August, compared to 13,908 in August 2009, with 10 of the state's 19 metropolitan statistical areas reporting increased existing home sales and 13 posting better condominium sales.
Since the first of the year, though, sales are up 13%, with 117,974 sales in the first eight months of 2010 vs. 10,422 for the same period last year.
Markets with the biggest gains were Ocala, up 32%; Gainesville, up 25%; Jacksonville, up 15%, and Miami, up 12%.
But there were some big losers, too: Sales were down 29% in Tallahassee, 27% in Panama City; 17% in Fort Pierce-Pot St. Lucie, and 16% in Fort Lauderdale, according to the Florida Realtors' count.
The above data does not include condominium sales, which registered a 22% gain in August, with 49,144 sales statewide vs. 34,547 in August ‘09.
Only six of the state's MSAs registered lower sales this August compared to last, with Jacksonville sporting the largest gain, a jump of 70%. Orlando also had a healthy increase in condo sales of 59%, as did Sarasota-Bradenton, 42%.
