Housing and infrastructure developers can apply for HUD’s competitive Indian Community Development Block Grant Program grants by June 15, 2011.

The fund supports a wide variety of community development and affordable housing projects that “demonstrate enormous creativity” building better housing, creating jobs, and improving neighborhoods, said HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan.

It fosters the economic recovery of Indian tribes and Alaska Native villages through community development options that include housing rehabilitation and land purchase that supports new housing construction.

The funding can also used to build infrastructure such as roads, water and sewer facilities, or to establish commercial, industrial and agricultural small businesses that support the community.
