Inventory Shortage Slows Potential Buyer Traffic in April

The number of Redfin customers making offers to purchase a property increased 7% between March and April, compared with a 4.4% rise for the same months in 2012.

The online real estate broker’s Real-Time Demand Pulse also found those clients touring homes increased 60 basis points between March and April, compared with a 30 basis point drop one year prior. But in March, Redfin notes, the month-to-month gain of those looking to tour homes was 9.1%.

What all this data means is that home sales are likely to increase in May and June, Redfin noted. It attributed the softening in demand to the shortage of existing home for sale. But the 260 basis point spread in the increase in the number of offers made shows consumers’ determination to purchase a home.
