On a day when the Dow Jones Industrial Average finished down 49.84 points, 12 of the 17 stocks in the Mortgage Industry Equity Composite closed higher on Thursday.

For the second straight day, leading the pack was MGIC, up 7.75%. After the bell on Wednesday, the company announced it will accept Desktop Underwriter or Loan Prospector determinations as good for a mortgage insurance policy to be issued.
It was followed by CoreLogic, up 5.09%. Before the market opened, it said fourth-quarter and 2012 earnings should be higher than previously forecast.
Ellie Mae had the biggest percentage loss on the day, down 1.62%.
