The 20-year securities litigation veteran is looking forward “to pursuing additional means of reforming Wall Street,” according to a press release.

Johnson will be in charge of enforcing New York State securities laws and the bureau’s “critical financial industry reforms.” His duties include overseeing of the New York Investor Protection Bureau.

He joined Schneiderman’s executive division in 2012 as senior trial counsel and later served as deputy AG.

Among others, Johnson has advised the AG on investigating misconduct related to the residential mortgage-backed securities industry.

He has “already successfully investigated” various Wall Street-related matters including “the conduct that led to the financial crisis in 2008,” Schneiderman said.

Most recently he has been assisting the AG in the Thomson Reuters matter that lead to a Thomson Reuters agreement “to discontinue its practice of selling early access to market-moving information to a select group of high-frequency traders.”

Before joining the office of the attorney general in 2012 Johnson was a partner with Bernstein Litowitz Berger & Grossmann LLP and Latham & Watkins.
