This has been a brutal year for most home builders. Even the giants of the business have suffered. But not all of them, according to Housing Intelligence, the independent research division of the Hanley Wood publishing company.
Indeed, seven builders with more than 1,000 closings this year have sold more houses so far this year than they did a year ago, the Contra Costa, Calif., based firm reported.
The Village of Lake Sumter, the entity that is building the all-inclusive Villages master planned property outside of Orlando, has enjoyed a 37% increase in sales. Sales by Columbus, Ohio-based M/I Homes are up 22%, while Dallas headquartered Highland Homes' sales are up 20%.
The other four which are having better years so far are: Perry Homes, up 9%; Richmond-American, up 8%; NVR, up 7%, and D.R. Horton, up 4%.
