Most of use would agree that mortgage business is tough these days. Guidelines tightening, rules changing, compliance issues, companies downsizing. There can be a crisis on every turn and plenty to worry about on a daily basis. In fact, you could let the stress of the business overwhelm you to the point that it affects your health, and ultimately even the number of your days.
I have always believed in the power of positive thinking. And there have been numerous studies in the past which revealed that individuals who maintain a positive attitude are more relaxed and energetic. Now, according to some relatively new research by several universities, keeping a good attitude can also increase your lifespan. The good news is that you not only live longer, but you have the health and energy to enjoy that extra time.
Why would optimists not only live longer than pessimists, but also have a healthier life? I don't think it is because optimists live stress-free, perfect lives. The studies show what most of us already knew—it is actually the manner in which a challenge is handled that differentiates the two groups of individuals. In other words, it's not what happens to us, as much it is what we make of it.
Pessimists use much more energy in working through a problem than optimists therefore that vital energy is lost by focusing solely on the problem instead of a solution. Also, studies have shown that stress can cause an unseen inflammation inside our bodies which can result in a shorter lifespan.
Why not embrace that philosophy that “It's not what happens to me, it's what I make of it." I will end with the famous words of Mr. Spock from Star Trek: “Live Long and Prosper."
