Fannie Continues to Explore Ways to Outsource Its Technology Functions

Fannie Mae is engaged in another round of talks with technology vendors that are looking to takeover some of its processing functions, according to former GSE officials and consultants familiar with the matter.

These officials, who spoke under the condition their names not be published, said the GSE is reviewing several technology contracts submitted under a ‘request for proposal’ or RFP.

“Final submissions” are involved, said one source.

One vendor bidding on a contract is said to be International Business Machines. At deadline media representatives for both Fannie and IBM had not returned telephone calls about the matter.

Several senior technology officials have been laid off by the GSE over the past two years. Fannie first started exploring the outsourcing of some of its technology chores well over a year ago.

Both GSEs are in the process of downsizing and shrinking their portfolios. No matter which party wins the White House this November, both face uncertain futures. (For more details see the Monday edition of National Mortgage News.)
