Laurie Goodman Departs Amherst Securities

Laurie Goodman has left the Amherst Securities residential mortgage-backed securities strategy group to pursue a full-time role at the Urban Institute.

Goodman, in an emailed statement, said that her last day at Amherst was Sept. 6. She leaves her role as senior managing director to join the Washington-based think tank as the director of its newly formed Housing Finance Policy Center.

At the Urban Institute, Goodman will play a major role in the development of a housing finance policy and research agenda as well as providing data-driven analysis of issues in the housing finance arena.

Goodman said in her email that she will “pursue, full time, [her] longstanding interest in public policy issues.”

Goodman is the founder and primary contributor to Amherst Mortgage Insight. She joined the group in 2008.

Before joining Amherst, Goodman was head of global fixed-income research and manager of U.S. securitized products research at UBS.

She also spent 10 years in senior fixed-income research positions at Citicorp, Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch. She worked as a mortgage portfolio manager on the buy side and a senior economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
