Quicken Loans Add Staff in Charlotte

Quicken Loans Mortgage Services, a unit of Quicken Loans that provides services to banks, credit unions and mortgage originators, said it is going to add more than 75 people by the end of the year.

The unit is based in Charlotte, N.C., and is relocating to a 20,000-square-foot office by the end of June. QLMS said this is more than double its current space.

It currently works with 800 financial institutions and expects to pass more than 1,000 and do $1 billion in monthly volume by the end of the year. There are currently 150 employees.

"We are growing very quickly—faster than even the most optimistic models we developed when we launched QLMS two years ago," said Tod Highfield, vice president.

Parent company Quicken Loans will assume the space QLMS is leaving and plans to hire 50 people to support its loan underwriting needs.

Bill Emerson, CEO of Quicken Loans, said, "We were pleasantly surprised to find an amazing pool of very qualified mortgage operations folks in the Queen City to strengthen our underwriting team."

Quicken Loans is expected to begin hiring in Charlotte later this summer, with plans to have all 50 positions filled by the end of the year.

Separately, BBVA Compass said it will hire 60 people, including processors, underwriters, closers and other support staff, as part of expanding operations centers in Birmingham, Ala., and Tempe, Ariz.

"The Tempe location opened just five months ago, but it's already key to our mortgage processing operations, as is Birmingham," said Jon Mulkin, BBVA Compass consumer segment director. "They allow us to serve customers in multiple time zones across our Sunbelt footprint. Plus, both cities are rich sources of recruits."

When fully staffed, the bank will employ 430 professionals dedicated to the mortgage process, including 270 in Birmingham, 140 in Tempe and 20 in a third center in Laredo, Texas.
