Senate Panel to Hold Hearing On Carson HUD Nomination

The Senate Banking Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing Jan. 12 on the nomination of Dr. Ben Carson as Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

President-elect Donald Trump first announced that he was considering the retired neurosurgeon for the post in a November tweet.

The hearing will be the first for the banking panel in the new Congress. Carson's nomination will have to be approved by a panel majority before moving to a vote in the full chamber.

If confirmed, Carson would succeed current HUD Secretary Julian Castro, who was formerly the mayor of San Antonio.

The hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. E.S.T.
