National Mortgage News has won a second editorial award this year, as the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority has given its Media Partner award to Editor at Large Mark Fogarty for his coverage of affordable housing.
MFA executive director Jay Czar, in referring to NMN coverage of urban, rural and tribal affordable housing in New Mexico over the past 20 years, cited in particular the August 2013 article "Where the Buffalo Are Neighbors," which is about a housing development on the desert plateau rising next to the tribal bison range at Nambe Pueblo in the desert west of Santa Fe.
"Where the Buffalo Are Neighbors" also won an editorial award this year from the Native American Journalists Association.
NMN has won four awards for its affordable housing coverage over the past two years. The others are an award from the American Society of Business Press Editors in 2012, and a second NAJA award, also in 2012.
Frost Mortgage Group in Albuquerque, N.M., won the MFA's Lender of the Year award for closing more than 200 MFA mortgages last year, the most of any lender in the state. Its president, Greg Frost Sr., who accepted the award, is a well-known national top originator and mortgage trainer.
The awards were given during the MFA's recent biennial New Mexico Housing Summit in Albuquerque. About 1,000 people attended the meeting, which was co-sponsored by state mortgage, Realtor and home builder groups.
