Texas, Washington Top Single-Family Markets: Pro Teck

Cities in Texas and Washington in had the strongest housing markets in September, according to data released Wednesday by Pro Teck Valuation Services.

The Waltham, Mass.-based company's September Home Value Forecast  ranked cities on a variety of indicators, including listing prices, days on the market, sold-to-list price ratio and foreclosure activity.

Pro Teck ranked Houston at the top of the list, followed by Oak Harbor, Wash., San Antonio and Seattle. The lowest performing cities included Madison, Wisc.; Scranton, Pa.; and Gary, Ind.

The rankings don't account for variations across neighborhoods, said Tom O'Grady, Pro Teck's chief executive, in a press release Wednesday.

"Across the country we are seeing strong appreciation in wealthy areas but slower recovery in areas with lower income," he said in the release, adding that looser lending standards would benefit low-income communities.
