Mortgage Loan Delinquency Rate Fell in December: Black Knight

Mortgage loan delinquencies dropped in December, according to Black Knight Financial Services' First Look report.

The rate fell 14.98% to 4.78% in December versus the year-earlier period. The comparison looks at loans at least 30 days past due, but not in foreclosure.

The rate of foreclosure presale inventory fell 21.85% to 1.37%. Total foreclosure starts fell 14.64% to 78,100. The monthly prepayment rate rose 1.29% to 1.14%.

The number of properties that were at least 30 days past due, but not in foreclosure, fell 15% to 2,408,000.

Mississippi led all states by noncurrent percentage, with 12.33% of mortgages noncurrent. It was followed by New Jersey, Louisiana, Maine and New York.

Mississippi also had the higher percentage of loans at least 90 days late at 4.06%, followed by Louisiana, Alabama, Maine and Arkansas.

North Dakota had the smallest percentage in foreclosure at 2.17%, followed by Alaska, Colorado, Minnesota and South Dakota.
