FHLB New York Chief Gets Tapped for Housing Commission

Federal Home Loan Bank of New York president Alfred DelliBovi is joining a private commission whose mandate is to review the proper role of the federal government in the housing sector.

The housing commission is being sponsored by the Bipartisan Policy Center, which was founded by former U.S. senators Howard Baker, Tom Daschle, Bob Dole and George Mitchell in 2007.

The commission’s goal is to develop a package of "realistic and actionable policy recommendations" to address problems in the housing sector. Former HUD secretaries Henry Cisneros and Mel Martinez along with former senators Kit Bond and Mitchell are heading up the panel.

On Tuesday, DelliBovi and 16 other housing officials were named to the commission.

"The housing commission will actively seek input from national policy shapers and industry practitioners, and from the public, by hosting regional forums across the country throughout 2012," according to a statement put out by the FHLB of New York.

DelliBovi is a former deputy secretary at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (1989-92).  He has served as the president and chief executive of the FHLB since 1992.
