The mortgage technology arena is changing at the speed of light. There are new developments at MERS. There is the ongoing UCDP (Uniform Collateral Data Portal) initiative at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. MISMO has a new iteration.
There are hundreds of new solutions on the default servicing side. Loan mods, loss mit, short sales, deeds-in-lieu of foreclosure.
Mortgage technology is bubbling along right now. That's because the mortgage industry is under tremendous stress. Now, more than ever, lenders need help in targeting resources and achieving efficiencies. Now, more than ever, vendors have the opportunity to be brilliant.
Our parent company SourceMedia is resuming its standout series of mortgage technology conferences. We have always featured the most timely sessions and the most in-depth speakers, dating back to our first MTC in 1998. This year's conference, at the Doral Golf Resort in Miami on Nov. 12-14, will be no different.
In all we have put on some 20 mortgage technology conferences, and will be glad to resume this series after a short market-driven interruption. Our depth and breadth of coverage is unparalleled in the industry. It goes back to the splitting off of Mortgage Technology magazine from this newspaper in the early 1990s.
Our engagement with the niche has continued despite two serious meltdowns, one the general technology bubble bursting of the beginning of this century, the second the mortgage meltdown of 2007 and 2008.
Some of the sessions from our initial conference, like “Image Technology: Cutting Paper Files Down to Size,” seem quaint these days, but others are evergreen topics still tossed around today.
“The Paperless Mortgage: Steps to Implementation” could be offered again, for instance, as could an early Mortgage Technology Award we gave based on the potential of using the Internet to access tech solutions rather than getting them out of a box. (Sound familiar?)
Speaking of the MT Awards, Mortgage Technology this year will be giving them out at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago on Oct. 9. Watch for our RSVP announcements as you won't want to miss one of the industry's hottest parties.
This year we are continuing our emphasis on lender as well as vendor awards, through awards like Servicer of the Year Award, Online Originator Award and Green Lender Award.
