Industry veteran John Robbins, who exited the business six years ago, next week will announce that he's reentering mortgage banking with a new retail/wholesaler lender.
According to industry associates close to Robbins, the new firm will be a nationwide lender.
At press time Robbins said he could not discuss the matter, or who his investors might be.
Robbins has been in mortgage banking since 1972. He founded American Residential Mortgage Corp., and then sold it to Chase Bank in 1994.
He also created American Residential Investment Trust Inc. in 1997, and then eventually American Mortgage Network (AmNet) in 2001 prior to its sale to Wachovia Bank in 2005.
He is a past annual chairman of the Mortgage Bankers Association.
