Bank of America will lay off 675 employees at two offices in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., as part of the bank's broader plan to reduce its head count.

The job cuts will be at offices where the Charlotte company modifies mortgages with some occurring in mid-October and the rest by the end of the year, according to press reports late this week.

"We continually evaluate our operations to ensure we're making the best use of our resources," Christina Beyer, a Bank of America spokeswoman said, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Bank of America said in September that it would cut 30,000 jobs, or roughly 10% of its 288,000 employees, as it works to shrink its business.

The company also has sold off a number of its business units or stakes in other companies during the last year to increase capital levels and streamline operations.
