This is the focus of the first-ever statewide Code Enforcement Summit coming up Oct. 13-14 in Belen, N.M.
“Valencia County is at the top of the list when it comes to foreclosures in New Mexico,” said Belen Mayor Rudy Jaramillo.

“This summit has the potential to be the model for how we effectively preserve communities across the state. The economic and housing issues we’re seeing here in Belen are similar to what we’re seeing across the state, especially in the rural areas. This summit will allow Belen and other New Mexico communities to obtain the resources necessary to ride out the storm and take steps toward rebuilding and revitalizing.”

The event is designed to benefit the code enforcement community by building relationships with field service companies who perform preservation services. Field service companies benefit because these relationships help to quicken the process of curing code violations.

In addition, the summit has engaged supporting industries such as real estate professionals who represent bank-owned properties, social service agencies, and New Mexico lending institutions. Representatives from each of these industries will be on hand to identify and implement collaborative solutions.

“We are committed to continuing efforts to reach out to code enforcement officials throughout the country,” said Robert Klein, founder and chairman of Safeguard Properties Inc., a national field services company.
“We believe that with improved communication comes a better understanding of the unique needs and requirements of each property and each municipality.”

The summit takes place Wednesday, Oct. 13 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Thursday, Oct. 14 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express Conference Center.

The summit will also serve as the official launch of the New Mexico Association of Community Preservation, a not-for-profit agency dedicated to fostering relationships between industry partners and organizations for the preservation of New Mexico communities.
