Robbins was formerly the chief technology officer of NetApp, a storage and data management technology vendor. In his new role, Robbins is responsible for designing and maintaining Ellie Mae’s data center capabilities, which have grown in importance to the Pleasanton, Calif.-based company as it continues to emphasize software-as-a-service versions of its loan origination system and other technology.

“Over the past two years, Ellie Mae has experienced a four-fold increase in its SaaS user base. As we transition from an enterprise solution to SaaS, the reliability of our system becomes paramount, and the role of CIO even more critical,” said Jonathan Corr, COO of Ellie Mae, in a press statement.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Robbins joined Ellie Mae in December. He is also responsible for managing Ellie Mae’s management information systems, data security and technical operations. Corr confirmed to Mortgage Technology that Robbins reports to Limin Hu, one of Ellie Mae’s co-founders and its chief technology officer.

While at Sunnyvale, Calif.-based NetApp, Robbins developed strategies for deploying IT systems, networks and storage and data management capabilities. Robbins previously held positions at Capgemini, Totality Corporation and Electronic Data Systems.

“David’s expertise will enable him to fast track our IT architecture and infrastructure transformations to accommodate the significant growth we are experiencing and to help deliver sustained client satisfaction,” Corr said.

On Wednesday, Ellie Mae announced that it will report its fourth quarter and year-end financial results for 2011 on Feb. 23.
