The Chicago FHLB manages the MPF Xtra program, which acts as a conduit for Fannie Mae loans.

“We have processed through our systems $6.9 billion of MPF Xtra loans for the year 2012, compared to $2.8 billion for 2011,” the Chicago FHLB says in annual securities filing.

Only five of the 12 FHLBs (Chicago, Boston, Des Moines, Pittsburgh and Topeka) offer their members access to the MPF Xtra program.

There were 378 active MPF Xtra lenders in 2012, compared to 321 in 2011.

Members of the Chicago FHLB originated over half of the Fannie Mae loans ($3.6 billion) in 2012.
