Freddie Once Again Postpones Holiday Evictions

Freddie Mac is suspending all evictions involving foreclosed owner-occupied single family and multifamily units during the upcoming holiday season.

The suspension, announced mid-week, means that evictions by its servicers will be halted from December 19 to January 2.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that the GSE has postponed foreclosure evictions during the holiday season.

“If the property is occupied, our foreclosure attorneys will suspend the eviction to provide families a greater measure of certainty during the holidays,” said Tracy Mooney, senior vice president of servicing and REO at Freddie.

The GSE said the temporary stoppage will apply only to eviction lockouts for Freddie-owned REO properties and will not affect other pre- or post-foreclosure processes.

Through the end of the third quarter, Freddie Mac had an inventory of approximately 60,000 REO units.
