Hilco Real Estate will be taking in sealed bids until Jan. 20 for an Illinois day school that is up for auction.
The Fox River Country Day School, located in Elgin, Ill., features 10 buildings totaling 87,000 square feet. The property is situated on 62 acres of land.
Opened since 1923, Fox River Country Day School began as a working farm to educate and assist Depression-era orphaned children. Through the years, the school evolved into a boarding and day school for kindergarten through eighth grade students.
In June 2011, the school announced it would discontinue operations and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November.
“This is a truly unique property and investment opportunity,” said Geoffrey Schnipper, vice president of dispositions at Hilco Real Estate, Northbrook, Ill. “The existing infrastructure needs little or no work to become a turnkey solution for an educational, religious or camp-related owner-occupant. The setting and existing infrastructure would also adapt well to a medical, rehabilitation or specialty care operation as visitors have commented on its soothing, therapeutic ambience.”
