Lawrence Summers' Withdrawal Aids Mortgage Stocks

The end of the Lawrence Summers candidacy to replace Ben Bernanke as chairman of the Federal Reserve Board seem to help most of the members of the Mortgage Industry Equity Composite close higher on Monday.

Trading volume for most MIEC members continued to remain muted. PHH had the largest percentage loss, down 1.36%. Ellie Mae was down 0.20% and Astoria Financial closed unchanged.

MGIC Investment Corp. was the largest percentage gainer, up 2.08%. Next was CoreLogic, up 1.82%. Fidelity National Financial had the third largest percentage gain at 1.43%.
