The funds will come from the state's Road Home program that was created in the aftermath of the hurricane to help rebuild New Orleans.

The Greater New Orleans Fair Housing Action Center and National Fair Housing Alliance, with the support of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, pursued the settlement with the state.

"This agreement is a huge help for those families who clearly want to get back into their homes but continue to struggle to make needed repairs to their properties," HUD secretary Shaun Donovan said.

The new Road Home funds will go toward rebuilding in Cameron, Orleans, Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parishes.  An estimated 1,200 of the properties receiving assistance are in the Orleans Parish.
