MBS Volume on Record Pace

The issuance of mortgage-related securities appears poised to surpass the annual record of $1.67 trillion set in 2001, according to The Bond Market Association.Real estate finance securities -- including agency and private-label pass-throughs and collateralized mortgage obligations -- were up 39.4% between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30. A total of $1.54 trillion worth of such securities were issued in the first three quarters of 2002, compared with $1.10 trillion in the same period of last year.
