A majority of consumers still think it’s a good financial decision to buy a home and most think they could sell their home for at least its initial purchase price, according to the National Association of Realtors.
Additionally, a majority of Americans think now is a good time to buy a home, according to the Realtors' 2015
More than eight in 10 respondents think it's a good idea to buy a home, according to the study; additionally, 68% think now is a good time to buy. About 71% think they could sell their home for what they paid for it.
Respondents cited the same reasons as in past years for why they think it's a good idea to buy a home: build equity, having a stable and safe environment and having the freedom to choose the neighborhood in which they live.
The study also found that the number of renters who now think they may buy a home rose from 36% in 2013 (the last time the Realtors conducted the survey) to 39% this year.
About two-thirds of those surveyed said home prices are more expensive now than a year ago.
