The National Association of Credit Managers’ report for the end of the year came in better than anticipated but the outlook is still somewhat mixed.
There have been fairly steady gains in areas like sales and new credit applications, which usually indicate possible improvement in business conditions, the association said.
However gains in credit extended and dollar collections were more modest and there were more rejections of credit applications with far more unqualified applicants than in the past.
In addition there were more disputes, more accounts placed for collection and more filings for bankruptcy.
