Once co-op is up and running, Larssen will provide advice and services to the members.

"We are extremely pleased to have Michael Larssen join the Mortgage Collaborative as a strategic advisor," said MC chairman John Robbins, a former chairman of the Mortgage Bankers Association.

Larssen was a founding member of Lenders One, a St. Louis-based co-op, and served as its executive vice president. Today, Lenders One members originate 12% of all U.S. mortgages.

The Larssen Consulting Group, based in Clearwater, Fla., "specializes in solving strategic challenges for lenders and expanding originations via recruiting, mergers and acquisitions," Mortgage Collaborative said.

Robbins, former MBA chairman David Kittle, National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals chief executive Gary Acosta and former Asian Real Estate Association of America chairman Jim Park are the founders of Mortgage Collaborative.

Their goal is to create a member-owned co-op that will “enable its member mortgage companies to compete more effectively in today's shifting lending environment."
