Wessel is taking on the chief accounting officer role previously filled by Francois Grunenwald, who will be leaving the company after a transition period "to pursue other opportunities," according to a press release.

The new head of accounting at Onity formerly worked in both the bank and fintech sector and also has broad experience with consumer credit in the United States, United Kingdom and South Africa.

"Aulene brings deep technical accounting, SEC reporting, and operational controllership expertise, along with a broad background spanning financial services and consumer finance," Chief Financial Officer Sean O'Neil said in a press release.

In addition to serving as EVP and deputy controller at Truist, Wessel previously was head of financial reporting at SoFi. Before joining SoFi, she headed up both policy and implementation in accounting at Silicon Valley Bank.

Wessel worked for American Express as a vice president prior to moving on to SVB. While at Amex, she served in roles that included controller in the global merchant services and loyalty. She was a VP in global accounting policy and advisory while at Amex.

Her career started in Cape Town, South Africa, where she worked for accounting firm BDO as a senior auditor. She later moved to work for Barclays Bank in London, where she was a finance business partner, before transitioning to posts in the United States.

While at Barclays, Wessell was responsible for financial planning and analysis, according to her LinkedIn profile.
