SAN DIEGO

Real Estate Mortgage Network Inc., a national mortgage lender based in River Edge, N.J., opened a new office in San Diego.

Kevin Hoyt, REMN's new Western regional retail manager, will be based out of this office and joins the company with more than 30 years experience in the lending industry.

Laurie Peterson, the San Diego office's branch manager, has more than 20 years of industry experience, including roles in sales, operations and training capacities.

Hoyt and Peterson are joined in the office by Nancy Sexton, who has been brought onto the team as the office's first mortgage loan originator.

REMN's new San Diego office comes on the heels of Tom Conklin joining REMN as the company's Western division sales manager for the wholesale channel.

David Stevens, president and CEO of the Mortgage Bankers Association, appointed Marcia Davies as his chief of staff.

Davies most recently worked at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, where she served as senior advisor Stevens when he was assistant secretary, federal housing commissioner.

Prior to HUD, Davies spent 21 years at Freddie Mac, where she held a variety of officer positions.

In her new role, she will be responsible for facilitating the implementation of strategic initiatives that require cross-functional integration within MBA, its staff and its members.

 

WASHINGTON

Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee chairman Tim Johnson, D-S.D., announced recent staff additions and promotions at the committee.

Johnson started assembling a new team shortly after he took over the chairmanship of the committee in early February.

Drey Samuelson, Johnson’s chief of staff, will take on an additional role as senior advisor to the chairman at the committee.

He has served as Johnson’s only chief of staff starting 24 years ago when Johnson was first elected to the House.

Charles Yi joined the committee as chief counsel and deputy staff director.

Most recently he served as deputy assistant secretary for banking and finance at the Treasury Department.

Marc Jarsulic recently returned to the committee to serve as chief economist.

He previously served as chief economist of the Senate Banking Committee and as chief economist and deputy staff director of the Joint Economic Committee.

Laura Swanson is the committee’s new policy director and will oversee the committee’s legislative agenda and hearing schedule.

She came to the committee from Johnson’s Senate office, where she had worked since January 2005.

Jeff Siegel serves as senior counsel for the committee and works on oversight of the derivatives portfolio and the implementation of the Volcker Rule under the Dodd-Frank Act.

Erin Barry serves as a professional staff member and works on housing issues including oversight of foreclosure prevention programs, mortgage servicing, government-sponsored enterprises and the Federal Housing Administration.

She comes to the committee from Johnson’s Senate office where she worked as a legislative assistant on housing, education, labor and telecommunications.

Homer Carlisle serves as professional staff member for the committee and works on public transportation issues and surface transportation legislation.

He previously worked for the American Public Transportation Association for more than five years.

Glen Sears works as a senior policy advisor focusing on the committee's oversight efforts, including Dodd-Frank implementation and monitoring federal agency activities and programs, like TARP.

Jana Steenholdt is a legislative assistant for the committee focusing on issues related to financial institutions.

Johnson also promoted the following staff members who served on the committee in the 111th Congress.

Catherine Galicia has been promoted to senior counsel for the committee and works on consumer protection issues and the implementation of the consumer financial protection provisions of the Dodd-Frank Act.

Lynsey Graham was also promoted to senior counsel for the committee, and has been with the banking committee since 2001, working on a portfolio including financial institutions, credit cards, credit unions and consumer banking.

Sam Gilford has been promoted to press secretary for the committee.

Brett Hewitt was promoted to legislative assistant for the committee.

FORT LEE

Bank of New Jersey appointed Paul A. Meyer as senior vice president and commercial loan officer.

Meyer comes to Bank of New Jersey with more than 40 years of experience in the commercial loan industry.

Previously, he was executive vice president and senior loan officer with Freedom Bank in Oradell, N.J.

He also has worked in senior management and commercial lending officer positions for banks in Paramus including Greater Community Bank, Valley National Bank and Chemical Bank.

Jefferies hired Michael Old, who joins as a managing director in real estate investment banking. He will be based in the firm’s London office.

Old brings to Jefferies nearly 17 years of real estate investment banking experience and joins the firm from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he was a managing director in the European Real Estate Structured Finance Group.

Previously, he was an executive director at NM Rothschild and Sons in its real estate investment banking group focused on real estate structured finance.

Janis Smith has joined MERSCorp Inc.’s executive leadership team as vice president for corporate communications.

Smith is responsible for corporate communications strategy and initiatives, media relations and internal communications, and brings over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry.

Her previous experience includes service with the Federal National Mortgage Association, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Office of Thrift Supervision, and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston.

Security Properties Inc. said that David Dufenhorst, former managing director of income properties, has assumed an expanded role as chief investment officer focusing exclusively on acquiring market-rate and affordable multifamily investments.

The company also promoted John Gleason to managing director of asset management and Jason Book-Symons to director of investments.
