Existing home sales fell 9.8% in October from the previous month, according to the RE/MAX National Housing Report.
The Denver-based realty company's report shows that home sale transactions have declined for four consecutive months in the 54 metropolitan areas it tracks.
However, the inventory of homes in those markets continues to fall, and prices remain little changed.
"We're pleased that despite all the market swings, home prices have remained stable," said RE/MAX chief executive Margaret Kelly.
The median sales price in October was $196,286, down 0.7% from a year ago.
