Showell, who has been in the business for 25 years, joins the Atlanta-based servicing giant from the PMI Group, which filed for bankruptcy protection last November.

She joined PMI in 2004 to establish and manage its relationships with Congress, regulatory agencies, consumer advocacy groups and housing trade associations. She will be based in Ocwen's Washington office.

During her career she also headed government and congressional relations at Freddie Mac, and was legislative director at the Mortgage Bankers Association.

"Ocwen recognizes the critical role that our regulators and lawmakers play in addressing the nation's mortgage crisis,” said company EVP and general counsel Paul Koches.

Ocwen, a top-ranked subservicing specialist that focuses on problem loans, is one of at least three firms that hopes to buy all or part of Residential Capital Corp.’s $370 billion servicing portfolio.
